What if I Have Started IVF or IUI?
Many of our patients have already begun IVF or IUI – they come to us because they know, when done in conjunction with acupuncture, how much more effective these treatments can be. Scientific studies have been done that carefully examine how much acupuncture can make a difference when a patient uses assisted reproduction therapy.
A study that quantified this was: “Influence of acupuncture on the pregnancy rate in patients who undergo assisted reproduction therapy.” The objective was, “To evaluate the effect of acupuncture on the pregnancy rate in assisted reproduction therapy (ART) by comparing a group of patients receiving acupuncture treatment shortly before and after embryo transfer with a control group receiving no acupuncture.”
Patients using assisted reproductive therapy in conjunction with acupuncture had increased success becoming pregnant – in a group of 80 women in each group (acupuncture group & control group) there were 13 more documented pregnancies in the acupuncture group! Patients who are already pregnant come to us because they are concerned – often these are first-time Moms or women with special circumstances regarding their pregnancy. They need a good ear, the wisdom that a life experience brings, as well as the systemic calm that acupuncture has on the nervous system. Ultimately, it is the combination of relaxed calm, renewed hope, knowledge, and perspective that improves the quality of a woman’s pregnancy.
Acupuncture Treatment for Menopause & Peri-menopause
Does acupuncture actually help women with menopausal issues? You bet! The emotional and physical changes going on in a woman at this time of life is are impossible to exaggerate. They are THAT volatile. While occasionally there is the lucky one who sails through with barely a hot flash, the vast majority of women find it an adventure at best – a LONG, drawn-out, exhausting, frequently debilitating adventure.
We see women who have taken great care of themselves and want to stay ahead of the changes ahead and we also work with women who feel absolutely wrung out. Typically, these are the women who have neglected themselves for years and find themselves on the other side of motherhood with an empty nest, a partner-less bed, soaked sheets and relentless insomnia. Menopause, and even peri menopause, can be an unpredictable and chaotic. Day to day it is a new hormonal ride.
