Depression, anxiety and insomnia often go hand in hand for women. Hormonal imbalances related to menopause can be a factor, as can the impact of major life events – divorce, empty nest, job loss or the care of aging parents.
Even today there can be a stigma or embarrassment regarding these symptoms – we’re supposed to be able to do it all, right? Maybe so, however, in order to be our best and give our all in a healthy and sustainable way, sometimes our system requires support.
Acupuncture for Depression & Anxiety
Depression, to one degree or another, is an issue for many of the women we see at Valley Acupuncture. Patients do not always present with a case of major clinical depression, instead, very often there is a depression or anxiety component at the root of their symptoms.
Acupuncture is especially effective for treating depression and anxiety because we consider the whole body and lifestyle. Acupuncture calms the mind, relieves stress, and improves sleep – each a contributing factor. We also use acupuncture to improve digestion which in turn balances nutrition. And if necessary, we can suggest whole food supplements that enhance good health. In my practice the patient relationship is one of the most significant ways to deal with depression and anxiety. I work closely with my patients to form a bond where they are safe to express and explore all facets of their illness. READ MORE ABOUT Acupuncture Treatment for Depression & Anxiety
Acupuncture for Insomnia
Got Sleep? If not, try this and call me in the morning!
I often see patients suffering from sleep issues ranging from a sleepless night occasionally to chronic insomnia. All sleep problems impact not only mood but your health. My patients consistently benefit from acupuncture as a treatment for insomnia. While often an issue in and of itself, insomnia is frequently a symptom of another health issue altogether – we consider both.
Insomnia is a sleep disorder most notably characterized by difficulty falling asleep, remaining asleep, waking multiple times in the night only to have trouble falling asleep again, feeling tired in the morning, and regularly waking-up earlier than desired.
